Historic Erotic Art from Around the World

Sweet Gwendolyn
Friday (2/19), 4:30pm, Salvage Vanguard Theater (2803 Manor Rd.)

Historic erotic art has been almost entirely censored from modern Western culture. Because a large part of what sets LGBTQ people apart is who we are attracted to and how we express that attraction sexually, this censorship has created the false impression that queer people have only existed in “decadent modern times.” The purpose of this presentation is to educate queer people on their own erotic history as well as their cultural (and often exalted) history throughout civilization, illustrated with art from around the world. The slideshow will go back thousands of years and will depict a spectrum of fully explicit sexual encounters including gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, BDSM, and orgy scenes from throughout history. In doing so, this presentation seeks to not only educate queer people on our own rich cultural heritage, but to also make the point that queer people have been present and that we have been expressing our gender and our sexuality throughout all of human history.
